A community journal grown up: celebrating 20 years of Climate of the Past

25 April 2025

Since 2005, Climate of the Past has been a leading platform for open-access publication, with a commitment to transparent peer review. The journal spans the four key domains of paleoclimate science: ice, ocean, land, and modeling – each reflected in its cover design and embodied by the expertise of its co-editors-in-chief.

Just 2 years after its launch, Climate of the Past was indexed in the Web of Science, and now, 2 decades later, it stands as a globally respected journal and a cornerstone of the paleoclimate community.

We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who has contributed to this journey – authors, editors, reviewers, and publishers alike. Your collective dedication and support have shaped Climate of the Past into the success it is today. Working alongside all of you has been a true privilege!

The 20th anniversary will be celebrated in two steps.

  1. The first one is happening during the EGU General Assembly 2025 in Vienna. The event will take place on Thursday, 1 May, in Foyer F from 18:00 to 19:00 and is open to all.
  2. The second step will be a series of webinars also open to all and to be announced soon after EGU25.

We look forward to commemorating this milestone with you!
